Brilliantly written. It’s raw/honest, inspiring, grasping, refreshing, and while for those transitioning to adulthood, has life lessons for the seasoned as well.

1865 is amazing and inspiring. Dr. Eve discusses a wide variety of common issues that many women and college students are exposed but are almost never talked about or challenged. Throughout the book I was able to connect with Dr. Eve on so many levels while laughing and crying. She brought an abundant amount of relief from self-doubt and anxiety as well as inspiring me take risks through 1865.

Dr. Hudson did a great job on this book! As a current Shaw University and Honors College student, 1865 was extremely relatable. Reading this book encouraged me to keep pushing forward with pursuing my degree. Dr. Hudson allowed us into her life through the book, and made it clear that we are bigger than our struggles and upbringings. I’d recommend 1865 to everyone, because reading it will open your eyes, and ultimately change your outlook on life.

1865 is simplistic and practical. It concisely describes how one can take the lemons of life and make lemonade, which is both sweet and tart!

I wish 18-year-old me could’ve read this book before I left for college. It’s clear from the writing that Eve genuinely loves and cares about the people she’s helping, that she wants you to succeed, and is going to help you do it.

Both relatable and informative 1865 is the perfect reminder to always be “purely dope.” The author vividly describes experiences that helped shape who she is today. Through her descriptive stories and expertise she shares clear insight on facing everyday issues. Thank you Dr. E for giving such timely advice, while sharing your own story. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

This book is so raw, so real, and really timely and relevant to college students today. I was carrying the book in my purse while at work. A few days ago, I pulled the book out while I was visiting a colleague’s class. At the end of the class, a student asked me if she could have the book to read. She read no more than five pages and asked me if she could have the book because she was hooked. Simply put, this book is a must read.

This book is one of a kind. Dr. Eve makes it clear that life is not always the best and we all face adversity. While reading, she provides a narrative that allows you to actually feel her emotions and understand her circumstances. I will reference this book during speaking engagements to inspire young ladies to thrive through it all. If you’re looking for a true advocate for tomorrow’s leader, I would highly recommend Dr. Eve Hudson!

1865 is an amazing read! It gave me a deeper insight into this young phenomenal woman… Dr. Eve D. B. Hudson. A well written document of her life, her struggle, her determination, and her accomplishments. I shared this book with my young nieces… Letting them see how faith and determination can lead to big things even when you think all the odds are against you. WOW! “1865” simultaneously, magnified the meaning of transparency and fearlessness. Her affinity for helping others in finding their purpose is displayed within this great body of work. 1865 is the cure to what many college students (especially first generation) feel that goes overlooked. Being able to take a closer look into the life of someone who has achieved so much and understanding what had to be overcome to get there is refreshing. It’s a comforting note to anyone reading to keep going and continue their journey because all will come together as it should.

‘Your zip code does not define your destiny’ – Now, how cool is this?
Let me be honest here. I am not a big fan of self-help books. I always hated the way they would throw advice at you and being so factual and so distant. But this book, 1865 isn’t usual. The author, Evingerlean shares how she fought the struggles in her life and how she overcame everything. Through her pain, you will learn your lessons; through her struggles, you will learn to be brave and through her life, you will learn to live! The one thing I loved the most about this book is, it doesn’t limit itself to one topic. Rather, it has covered everything – from sexual abuse to rejections in life; from failure to having hope and belief. The motivational lines being sprinkled in between are like an added cherry on the cake. This book will be a savior for most of us since I could relate so much to her life. A brilliant and must-read book!

Normally, I am not into books let alone reading a book about someone’s hardships, but this book is inciting to say the least! This book doesn’t throw random advice hoping it will stick in your head. This book digs deep by talking about many struggles the author has been to to help other see that no matter how hard life gets, there is light at the end of the tunnel. There’s mental and physical pain that is describes that is enough for one’s life time. But this books shows that as long as there is hope you will get through the pain and suffering. I am only 18 and this book has opened my eyes to see that there is more to life than pain. I may have to look for it, but I know it’s out there. All I got to do is hope.
